Booking your wedding venue can be stressful. I get it.

Maybe you’ve been dreaming about this location since you were a kid … or maybe you are so overwhelmed, you don’t even know where to begin.

Here are three things you need to keep top of mind when booking a wedding venue for your special day:

1. Is there available light in the bridal suite (or the space you’ll be getting ready in)?

The more available, natural light that you can find the better! This is the KEY to magical, timeless, classic photos.

Of course, some photographers (like myself) will opt to take a wedding party outside to find some better light when natural light is not available inside.

2. What are the colors, patterns, & textures at the venue?

Think about what vibe or mood you want your wedding to have and if the venue coordinates with that. Watch out for colors, patterns, textures, and vibes that don’t correlate with the vision you have.

If you’re going for modern vibes on your wedding day, but the venue is
covered in ethereal organic textures and tones, it might make it challenging to pull off the modern vibes you envision. Likewise, if you’re going for a neutral color palette, but the venue has a lot of red velvet textures everywhere, you will likely find it challenging to create what you’re envisioning.

Not only will your guests notice this disconnect, but you’ll notice it when you get the photos from your wedding day!

Finding a neutral venue provides a clean, blank canvas for you to craft and curate the magical day you envision.

3. Does the venue have a professional staff?

With over 15 years of experience in this industry, I can assure you that the professionalism of the staff will be one of the largest impactors of your wedding day.

As you’re meeting with the team at each venue, imagine what that person is like and how they would handle a situation when their stress levels are at an all time high. Will they be respectful? Will they care for your guests like you would want them to? Will they handle situations that come up in a way that you feel confident in? Will they look out for the little details and the things that will make life easier on your wedding day?

As a wedding photographer, these are my top three, bests tips for you to keep top of mind when booking your wedding venue. When you keep these in mind, you’ll be on your way to finding the perfect venue to create the day that’s just what you imagined.
